Hidden down a leafy woodland lane, halfway between the estates of Carton and Castletown, stands an intricately designed stone structure. The origin of the mysterious towering landmark with its many arches and obelisk, is deeply intertwined with the history of Maynooth and the surrounding areas. "Conollys Folly" as it is known, was built in 1740 providing local families with an income after a famine brought on by "The big frost", from the previous year. This painting shows The Folly under a blanket of snow, harking back to the freezing conditions all those years ago, which ultimately led to it`s construction.
